| Ayurveda Ayurveda is an old Indian science. It teaches the dynamics of the being and the laws that govern the Universe and mankind. In western societies the medical and health doctrines of Ayurveda are widespread besides being certainly the best known of the alternate medicines. The therapeutical part of this Indian philosophy is based on the knowledge of three components of the human body, the Doshas. The Doshas are composed of five basic elements (ether, air, fire, water, earth). Their balance has to be maintained and determines the state of health of the body. Thus Ayurveda doesn’t treat the disease as the cause of imbalance but tries to strengthen and maintain the balance necessary for our health. The ayurvedic therapy doesn’t treat the symptom, but the person as a whole. The person should be brought to balance his vital energies which are situated on seven points (chakras) along the body. An ayurvedic doctor can determine the state of health by diagnosing the pulse. But since the next therapeutical steps are often very long this is a big impediment for western patients. Ayurveda was made public by Mahari Mahesh Yogi and Deepak Chopras, the guru of the New Age. They brought this ancient vedic knowledge that stresses transcendental meditation to a broad public. Ayurvedic therapy cures with herbs, minerals, oil massages, dry massages, hot oil massages, Yoga, transcendental meditation, color therapy, music therapy, aroma therapy as well as the exact combination of food that are considered medicine. |
